If you can go during the winter, I’d highly recommend it. There aren’t many tourists and the mountain towns are gorgeous.
Oh and if you’re traveling as a couple I’d highly recommend a stay-o at a love hotel. They’re relatively inexpensive and have very nice rooms. Of course you’d have to be open to the fact that these places are where many Japanese go for a little romp. The places are kept very clean and orderly, so we had absolutely no problems with them! Try them, you’ll love them!
