How I did it: I lived in Alaska, but worked the morning shift at a local radio station. The aurora like to come out around 3 AM or so, at my prime sleeping time, so I missed them for a very long time. How I did it: I moved to Alaska! I found a volunteer program that paid for your relocation, put you up in a nice house, and allowed you to work in a radio station. Again, it was kind of a cheat: I moved into a house with young people, and the town was so small that a significant portion knew about my arrival before I was even there. I’m going to forget all of the meaningful moments in one way or another and be stuck with a lot of bullshit moments, like the time I sat around watching Project Runway for a day. Sure, it was enjoyable, but when I’m on my deathbed, I’d really like to hope that I could remember something more pleasant than that.
This is truly the best part of the indie music community. Yet, I often don’t participate and, instead, gripe about all of the things I hate about the indie music community. Positivity is the way to go!
