I used to run lots of miles in college but blew out my achilles tendon and never really got back into it… since then, I’ve gotten out of shape, and I’ve tried getting back into running sporadically and never really gotten back into the flow.
I’ve figured out that the main problem I’ve had every time I’ve TRIED to start running again was that I remember how I used to run in college, so I wanted to do TOO MANY MILES TOO SOON, and ended up burning out after a few weeks.
However… over the winter I found this old book called JOG RUN RACE by Joe Henderson and it is absolutely the BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER SEEN about starting running. It keeps you on a schedule and at a reasonable pace, so that you don’t hurt yourself or burn yourself out. You start with a program that’s in line with your current fitness level and build up gradually.
I’ve “tried to start running” over and over again since college, but this program has finally got me doing it regularly. If you can get this book on Amazon or at a used bookstore, do it. It’s worth the search. Good luck.
