How I did it: I picked a deadline that gave me enough time to work on things, but that wasn't so far out that I would procrastinate. If I accomplished something that I had been working on my months, I added it as a goal, and then determined it as done. I was open to the postings of other members so that if something seemed possible and it was something I really wanted to do, I added it, did it, and counted it as done. I thought I would have to spend money on some, but boxes have appeared where I work and I was able to take them. There are about a dozen, and I think they’ll be enough to box up all my dissertation data, drafts, reference materials, committee correspondence, and etc., so I can move it out of my office and into storage. With that done, I’ll be able to get to the other things I need to do for my conversion of a very messy office into a clean and tidy guest room/office.
Okay, I’ve done a bit of a shift so that the novel is a vampire Western novel. It came into my head, and I apologize to all the traditional Western afficionados, but I just have to write what’s there. They show up and start living their lives in my mind, and I have to admit – it’s good stuff! Once it’s written, then it will be out of my mind and I can focus on something else. Currently I am consumed by my characters and their actions.
