How I did it: I started with small goals and gave myself plenty of time to build up: 5K, 10K, then half-marathon. I did my best to consistently keep up with runs, even though there were certainly days that I just didn't feel like it. In addition, I found a friend who had the same goal, so I had someone to turn when I had a really great run, or someone who was understanding and helpful when I had a poor run. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Here's how I did it: Make running a priority - I didn't feel like running everyday, but it didn't matter. I just reminded myself how good I would feel afterward, which worked most of the time. Enlist a workout buddy - I had a friend working towards the same goal, so even though we didn't train together, we continually pushed each other on. Found a run that made me feel good - I did a run for a good cause, which helped push … Read how I did it…
How I did it: It was simple. I had candles on hand and I picked up a book that I've been working my way through for a while. It was a great reminder to disconnect from the world every now an then. Read how I did it…

So, this isn’t my first 5K, but it’s the first one in a while (almost 2 years), and it’s the first that I’m actually actively training for. I’m on Week 3 of my training, and I am feeling stronger than I have in quite a while.
Also, I recently had a birthday, and for my birthday I asked my parents to register me for a local charity run here in Chicago, The Ravenswood Run. It gives me just enough time to finish my training, and I’m so excited!
So, I’ve decided to do this in tandem with the “wake up when my alarm goes off” goal. 6 a.m. – nice to meet you (tomorrow of course!)
