Again with Model United Nations, I have become familiar with blood diamonds, which are basically diamonds sold to fund wars in Africa. Sierra Leone was the leading nation of selling conflict diamonds. Recently in 2002 the United Nations has instated a process by which they hope the reduce the amount of blood diamonds bought and sold. It is a great idea and very humanitarian. I would appreciate that when I buy a diamond, to know that I am not funding a war.

I know you are thinking “Where on God’s green earth is Mauritius?” Well it is an island off the coast of Madagascar which is a larger island off the coast of Africa. It is Africa’s second wealthiest country, behind South Africa (which we all know is cheating becasue the sell Blood Diamonds but that is another entry). So, why? you ask; well I have actualyl represented this country many times in Model United Nations. And it has been a joy, and the cause of many inside jokes, to which I must repay for all the good it has done for me. Me and my friend Kelly who will accompany me owe a lot to this little country, and the least we can do is add some revenue to the place.
I saw the most beautifully shot movie, “Mean Creek,” which was shot in Portland. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the movie really inspired me to travel there. Not much more to it, but talent and luck.
