After college I traveled to Colorado from Massachusetts via Canada. I went across the country by train and then down the coast by boat. On the ferry from Vancouver to Seattle I threw a message in the bottle into the the Straits of Juan de Fuca and never saw or heard about it again. The bottle had a metal cap so it must have sunk by now. So too have all the hopes I had for the world then. At the time I thought I was exploring the world, but now I know I was just engaging in literary littering.

“The only way to discover your strengths is through feedback analysis. Whenever you make a key decision or take a key action, write down what you expect will happen. Nine or twelve months later compare the actual results to your expectations.”
Peter Drucker

Went Saturday and made 10 runs. Went Sunday and made 11. At this pace it is very unlikely I will ever reach my goal.

All my experience shooting guns has taken place on ranges, especially when I was a cadet at Culver Military Academy. Those experiences have made me a strong proponent of intelligent gun control. If we were more careful about who acquired guns and when it was socially acceptable to own them perhaps some of the tragedies like the shooting at Virgina Tech could have been prevented. Guns play a such prominent role in society here every American or vistor to America should know how to shot a gun and to have respect for the power guns have to change lives, almost always for the worse. I certainly intend to take my kids to the range for just this purpose.

We could not have been more opposite, she was young, I was old, she was tall, I was short, she didn’t have children, I had two, she lived near the ocean, I lived near the mountains. Yet I was like a sunflower and she was like the sun: as she passed though my life I was always facing her and connected. Without any effort on my part at a glance I knew what she was thinking and feeling. In the end our differences were too great not to keep up apart. She broke my heart, but it was so worth it.

It is an unusual goal, I admit, but I have started five different businesses already and would like to try my hand at this.
