I went to the Los Angeles DMV.

Let me tell you, this was the worst thing I could have done. Seriously. I went to get my California DL, registration, and title for my car. Apparently, ridiculously difficult and fantastically frustrating. Whole new worlds of aggravating stone-walling, ass-hattery, and thoroughly repugnant abuse of “power.” I only managed 2 out of 3. Why, you ask? Because, “we are currently at a level 5, ma’am. We need your marriage certificate as proof of your ‘true name.’ No, your marriage license won’t do. Neither will your Colorado DL, nor your Social Security card.” Yes, I’m totally lying about taking my husband’s name when we got married 5 years ago. And, as the whitest person I know this side of a friggin’ albino I must pose an absolutely terrifying terrorist security risk. I’m so sorry. My bad.

WTF?! The authority of another DMV office isn’t good enough for you?? And, neither is the authority of the friggin’ US Federal Government official who issued my SS card?!? GAH!!

So, I get to drive without a current CA DL. Carrying a CO DL, CA registration, CA title, and proof of CA insurance is sooo bad, y’all. They’re forcing me to break their rules.

I have my marriage certificate on order from Colorado. When that arrives, I’ll attempt to make another appointment at the LA DMV. One whole month in advance, just like last time. I guess the saying is true… “Those with the least amount of power exercise it to the fullest extent.”

I swear I’m gonna have to find a way to put something positive on this list…

exercise daily
Getting closer to this 3 years ago

We’ve joined the local YMCA (in Burbank, which is actually pretty swank, considering it’s the Y) and I am now exercizing 3 days a week. That’s all I can handle, really. I’m exhausted. Those classes kick my butt. I’m a wimp. Baby steps…

Ok, this isn’t what I would call a positive thing to do, neither was it intentional. I got a ticket for driving without proof of registration. I know, minor, considering. But, I’ve never been pulled over before. Ever. Sure, I’ve been in a car when it was pulled over, but I was never the one driving. That cop scared the crap outta me! Word to the wise: Don’t get pulled over in Downtown Los Angeles! My Colorado registration had expired and I hadn’t gotten my California registration “in a timely manner” either. So when the cop pulled me over, I was caught.

Why was I in downtown LA in the first place, since I don’t live there? I was taking my globe-trotting little brother to the Korean Consulate to get his Visa renewed so he could go back to Korea, where he teaches ESL. So, I guess I got three for the price of one. First-time ticket and first-time Korean Consulate visit and first-time in downtown LA. Yay?
