boston marathon
I've been wanting to do this for 4 years... 17 months ago

I went to school in the Boston area for 4 years! And senior year, I kept telling myself, I can do this, I can do this and pushing myself to run 10K’s. Needless to say, schoolwork and other things caught up to me and this goal fell flat on its face. One of my major problems is I struggle with long term goals, and everyone knows that you can’t suddenly run a marathon within a week. Well, I still have the rest of my life to train for this so here goes…

be less awkward
The extremes I go through to not say "hi" to someone 17 months ago

I’m laughing while I’m typing this, but actually it’s not very funny. I went to a nerdy school where ‘awkward’ was the norm, and we even perfected a hand gesture for it. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, google “awkward turtle” and see how to do it with your hands). These are the ways that I’ve discovered I can get away with not saying ‘hi’ to someone (1) Squint and stare ahead, pretend not to see person, (2) Just as person’s in speaking range, open cellphone or fiddle around cellphone as if you’re about to take call, (3) If you accidentally make eye contact with someone you know (arggghhh! too late!) and you’ve perfected the art of awkward, you can still walk by each other without saying anything. I’m laughing right now because I don’t have problems conversing with people, it’s the “hi” that’s got me stumped. I really hope people who are reading this are not like me – I’ve pissed off many a people with my not-so-smooth moves. Now that I’m about to start work (and with the knowledge that my awkward moves can endanger my work), it’s time to perfect that “cheery” smile and the routine “how do you do?”

be closer to my brother
I talk to my brother less than 5 times a year... 17 months ago

I’m not sure what is the normal/standard sibling talk time , but I’m pretty sure that I am below average on this one. My brother and I never got into a huge fight, but we drifted apart in high school, and then basically never talked to each other in college except if we were home at the same time for holidays. It has gotten so bad that when I mention that I do have a brother, my friends would stare incredulously at me and tell me that they thought I was an only child. The point is I know he’s going through an important transition right now, family is family and I’m going to make an effort to call him and talk to him each month. I noticed there’s quite a lot of people who want to be closer to their brother, I know it’s not easy to be the first one to pick up the phone, but I wish everyone the best of luck.
