Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

*Breaking down walls...*

I sang at church last night, and I was so nervous. I literally was sick to my stomach. I want so very much to break down this wall that has come up, albeit unknowingly, over the past few years. During one of the hardest times my life has ever known, my God pulled me through. But while I was healing, one of my greatest joys was slowly stolen from me. If I had only known, I would have fought for it with all of my heart. But I was too busy ~ too busy trying to heal, trying to forget, forgive, and move on. When I realized it, it was too late. It’s as if I woke up and a part of me is missing.

I will not give up ~ it is too important.

*Still working on this goal!*

I have been sooooo busy the past two weeks! :-(

And it doesn’t have any signs of slowing down until the end of the month…I will be glad when February is over with! It has truly been grueling!

I have carried over January’s goals to February, because I think I still need time to make them habits. I also need more time to devote to them, since the past two week have been so jam-packed.

My major focus is on walking, walking, walking! Making this a habit is what I’m shooting for. I know it will be good for me, and it also gives me time to think. I find a certain peace when I do walk. It’s a time to just be alone and let my mind stop racing as it usually does after work for hours on end. I have a really hard time turning off that switch from “work mode” to “I’m home now and can relax mode”. Very frustrating…

But walking helps me do this, and if for no other reason than this, I should be making it a habit.

*Postcard #57 ~ Australia!*

Thanks so much, JWillow, for the awesome postcard from Australia! I appreciate you taking your time and helping me out with my postcard goal. I am actually using the postcards that I receive from 43thingers right now to go along with Postcrossing in my third grade history class at school. We are putting pushpins in all of the states and countries that we receive postcards from. Our map is really filling up fast, thanks to Postcrossing (which I love) and great people here on 43things. We got to put a new pushpin on our class map, since we hadn’t received one from Australia yet. They were very excited! :-) Each child gets to keep postcards that we receive, too, so they really look forward to getting new ones. Four of my students have also created their own personal Postcrossing account at home with their parents. I am so excited for them! And I am so happy that I have been able to share such a wonderful thing with my class, as well as give them a new hobby that could last a lifetime.

*Week five...*

I’ve been going strong with this for five weeks now. Lost some of my momentum this week. So very much going on. Still sticking with it, because I’m stubborn like that :-)

Tomorrow begins week six, and I hope to throw some bigger things into the plans. I’m thinking adding to my wardrobe a little. Maybe some new, cute things that make me feel good about myself. I got several giftcards for Christmas, and may use them to accomplish this. I actually wore a dress to work today, and got lots of compliments. ears. Probably because I haven’t worn a dress to work in over three yIt was something new and not my usual ~ a sweater dress with leggings and a scarf. I even borrowed my sister’s shoes that matched the outfit. I really should try a little more often…

I’ve been using brown sugar and fig bath and body this past week ~ going to use coconut sugar Victoria’s Secret this next week. I’ll be adding more to this tomorrow!

:-)

*Been frozen here...*

for what seems an eternity. I want to focus, but life gets in the way and I’m just so extremely overwhelmed right now. Sometimes I wish I could just call a time out on life. That’s what I need right now, is for the clock to stop turning…and just breathe.

*This goal goes hand in hand with goal number four on my list...*

Although they are completely unrelated, they are both results of one of the hardest times I’ve ever known. It has been almost twelve years ago. I remember coming home from work and my world, as I knew it, fell away from beneath my feet. My faith and God literally got me through. It’s as though I went to sleep for a very long time, and when I awoke, it was all over. For months I would work, come home, eat, sleep. And then one day it was different and I moved on. But while I was busy guarding my heart, I feel like some things were snatched away from me. I wasn’t totally oblivious, but my focus was on other things. If I had only known, I would have fought for it. But that is why this goal is here, as well as #4. I do have the desire to get them back, and it is mostly up to me. It’s pretty much a battle with self. So silly, but so very hard.

I’m angry at myself ~ why did I let it happen?

Thanks so much, Sasha, for the beautiful and interesting postcard from Russia! I loved the stamps, too ~ as a stamp collector, I always check out the stamps on the postcards that I receive. I enjoyed doing a postcard swap with you, and I hope you enjoy the postcard that I sent to you! Cheers!

*Third time's a charm...*

for me:

two pairs of pants not worn in several years
three shirts not worn in probably about that long
a purse full of junk

kept the purse, but cleared out the junk.

Also helpful: going through, all beit slowly, a pile of shirts to handwash.

Items so far: nineteen, if you count the bag of junk as one huge item.
