- Sunny but cool weather. Everyone’s complaining about the lack of summer weather, but I’m so happy. It’s perfect.
- A stolen trip alone to Walmart. Okay, Walmart is evil, yeah, yeah, yeah, but I was there! Alone! I bought garbage bags and a battery charger! Woo!
- The floor is swept. The entire floor at once!
- Crisp apples.

- Fooling around at bedtime, as usual. I was half falling asleep on the floor and he was singing to himself beside me. Made-up songs. One had a section that went like this: “Mommy has boobies, yes she does, two boobies, yes. Mommy has boobies, yes, so I can have a drink when I want, yes.” I didn’t even know he remembered nursing, he hasn’t mentioned it once since he stopped. I was wondering if he’d ask there on the spot for some milk, but he just went right on to the next song about something else.
- Clambering up the stairs to see my mom’s cat. I told him “slow down on the stairs” and he instantly clicked into slow motion. Still just as precariously balanced, not holding on or anything, but all in slow motion. And he was totally serious.
- Feeding the goat at the farm, slow to pull his hand back, and ended up with two of his fingers fully engulfed in the goat’s mouth, which was slurping and trying to suck up the slice of carrot he had in his hand. It only lasted a few seconds, and he didn’t react openly at that moment, but he paused, kinda casual, and then said “okay, I’m done with this,” and then walked away, frantically wiping his fingers on his pants.
Tues
- Being able to pass the long lines of people buying overpriced fast food at the zoo and just open up our lunch bag on the bench smack dab in front of the elephant habitat and eat fruit and vegetables and pasta while watching them walk around. I learned this verrry slowly over the last year of going to the zoo, but I finally did learn.
- A new todo list site to try. www.tadalist.com
- My pillow. Fresh sheets. Being that certain kind of tired that makes it so there is NOTHING on earth better than sinking your head down on your pillow, spreading out your limbs on the sheets, and falling down into sleep.
- Went to our first weekly playdate in the park. Parents from school rotate to different parks once a week. The email went to every parent that ever supplied an email address, so there was quite a mix of people.
- H woke early from his nap and we made the last-minute decision to go for an oil change and walk for a late lunch at McDonald’s while we waited. Feeding my kids McDonald’s doesn’t make me happy at all, but they were so excited and had such a good time, and didn’t even seem to notice they got no toys. I love that 6 french fries can still satisfy my kids.
- Thanks to some tv for the kids (who have been fighting like maniacs since school let out) I feel like I actually made a tiny dent in the mess that is my house.
