So I attempted the Vermont 50 mile over the weekend. I had been training since May, but a last-minute change of course meant that I had not trained on enough hills. A weekend rain deluge also made for crazy slippery and muddy conditions. The good news is that I can honestly say that I did my best, but the bad news is that the effort was insufficient to finish. The race staff pulled me off the course at mile 27 as my pace had fallen below the pace necessary to finish in 12h. Next time, I guess.

I’ve started by reading the books on my shelf that don’t actually belong to me. I’ve done 2.5. About 65% of my own books I have not read. Going to be a long job.

Still progressing on the downloading, about 750 tracks. I have 3 complete volumes (1,2 and 6). Progress on finding more has been slow, and I might resort to buying the more cost-effective complete works from Amazon.

My mother’s Christmas gift to me was the “get-a-life” package of 3 concerts playing in my area that she knew I would like. I attended the third on Saturday night.
Natalia Zuckerman, the opening act, blew my mind with her hung-fu guitar stylings, and I want to go see her at Passim this Friday.
Girlyman is playing at Passim also in a couple of weeks, and I want to get Carbonleaf tickets for the 31st.

My last marathon was in 2003 (4:20:36). It’s going to be some work to get to 3:30, but I’ve been able to maintain the pace on the treadmill consistently for hour intervals.
At this point, I need to:
1. Find a race and sign up so that I have a tangible motivation for increasing my training.
2. Add more long runs into the routine. I’ve rarely gone over the 2 hour mark for months.

I started downloading this yesterday, and have ~200 tracks. Out of excitement, I’m listening to them on shuffle, but when I have full works, I can’t wait to explore them all!
