Find even a few minutes a day in which to relax. Maybe organize some things a little better in your schedule. Buy a yoga poses book. Place your mat in front of the TV if you absolutely must.
There is no such thing as not having time for yoga. It is very low-impact, incredibly relaxing, a wonderful destressor as well as a mind-clearer.
I especially love the way it improves my posture and makes my shoulders feel rolled back into a “straighter” position. It puts a bit of a bounce in my step and makes my body feel more aligned.
It helps to relieve everything from cramps to joint pain to stiffness. It aids in pain management (I have fibromyalgia and take absolutely NO medication for pain). It takes little thought and becomes automatic. It can be an expression of your creativity. It can be a source of inspiration.
Pick up a small book of poses or a beginners’ DVD and a good, nonslip mat. Just start out with a few minutes to a half hour of very basic poses. You’ll feel a definite difference in your stance after just that first time. After that, it becomes addicting. You’ll find time between meetings, during breaks at the office when you stand in mountain pose to center yourself and maybe include a few other poses, at your lunchtime or before you go to bed.
I would set the alarm just a half an hour earlier in the morning. You’ll find that it helps to make you feel more awake and relaxed at the same time. Your mind will be clearer and your body will feel more able to handle the day’s stresses.
