Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Monday gratitudes:
Cold and chilly willy. Today I am grateful for:
  • A good workout at the gym.
  • A chance to wear my lovely new warm coat against the cold wind.
  • Being the only person on the mop up for the L survey. It was a nice challenge to see how many I could get before the end of the day.
  • Feeling fabulous.
  • Feeling excited about having booked my flights to go and visit The Bee Man at the end of the month :-)

2014 update

It will be June in a few weeks time and we will be half way through the year. I am very pleased with how things are going, although I know I need to improve and gain more balance in some other areas.
I have enrolled in the Diploma of Life Coaching and have completed the 14 modules of the Coaching Course. Now I am doing my prac sessions. It has been wonderful so far. Easy as this is what I have been doing all my life one way or another.
I am focused and well paced with the course and should graduated in 12 months. I am pleased with my progress.
My health is fantastic. I have kept the weight off and my muscle mass is now brilliant. I have a toned and athletic body and I aim to keep it that way. I am now a size 12!! It was this time last year that I started the 12WBT that has made all the difference to my shape. Winter is coming and I literally found I had no clothes, so the past 2 pays have been spent getting a new winter wardrobe together. I LOVE the way clothes look on me now. I told someone that I have become a good coat hanger LOL. What I mean by that is that my clothes look good on me now. I have bought some wonderful things at the mid season sales and I now have a stunning wardrobe for the winter.
I am also building a more PROFESSIONAL wardrobe because of my new role as a Life Coach. Walk the talk, as they say.
My friendship circle is still a little stunted. I am working on finding YOUNGER friends. I have outgrown my peers. They are all sitting around counting pills and aches and pains and I just want to go rock climbing, kayaking, bush walking and have fun. I have found a social group that has regular events and most of the people seem about 10-20 years younger than me, which is what I need.
It has been a big revelation to me that most of my friends are allowing their lives to contract while I am making a conscious effort to EXPAND mine.
I guess there comes a time when you have to move on. Not that I would ever ditch my friends, it’s just that I realise that they are not the type of people I can ask to come with me on a 30km bush walk.
Right now, life is good. Things are falling into place and I am looking forward to whatever the next few years bring and whatever I choose to create for myself.

Sunday gratitudes:
The cold continues and gratefulness is present for:
  • The refreshingly cold breeze that makes you think of hands wrapped around hot cups of coffee or chocolate.
  • Warm coats.
  • My fantastic health.
  • Cats that want to snuggle up against the cold.
  • An early night in a warm and toasty bed in my long PJ’s with The Inherited One sneaking in beside me under the covers. We both pretended he wasn’t there ;-) LOL.

Today was my late son’s birthday. The first significant anniversary since his death last year. I am grateful for:
  • The slight distraction of having to go to work.
  • S who came around to mark his mates birthday and spent some time with me reminiscing.
  • The day passing quickly.
  • Long pyjamas. The nights are getting colder. Brrrrr.
  • A warm snug and toasty bed.

Friday gratitudes:
Today I am so very grateful for:
  • Finally being put onto the new survey. It’s nice being part of the ‘mop up’ crew for the old on, but it gets tedious sometimes, so starting a new survey is like Christmas :-)
  • A good workout at the gym.
  • Nice comments about my appearance. I wore the new “I can’t believe I let you talk me into that” fluro pea green jacket. It looked fabulous and so many people commented how nice it was. Who would have thought???
  • Truly appreciating my body and how I have rebuilt it. I’m no model but I am proud of the transformation :-) I’m a good coat hanger for my clothes nowadays.
  • The best every Australia vs NZ football game. It was an amazing game! Aust won but the Kiwis had us to the wall several times. It was a great way to end the week. I just love it when the Kiwis do the Haka before the game begins – such a powerful challenge invitation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHrbIWnn5G0

  • Waking to the rainfall during the night. The pit pat of the raindrops on the plants outside the bedroom… just delicious :-)

Monday gratitudes:
Today I am very grateful for:
  • A fantastic upper body work out. Back, chest and arms. Feeling strong :-)
  • Pairing up the odd boots. How they got separated and ended up at one end of the house and the other somewhere else I have no idea, but they are finally re-united! Yaaay.
  • A good day at work. Started the new project. Grateful grateful for the change.
  • Nice times and talks with T.
  • My Coaching Triad has been established and I have been assigned a mentor. Yaay. A new stage of learning is about to begin.

Sunday gratitudes:
Today I am very grateful for:
  • A lovely, long overdue catchup breakfast with R and the new beau S. It was wonderful to catch up after nearly 5 months.
  • A wonderful day shopping with T. I desperately needed a new pair of shoes so we went to a different shopping centre which we haven’t been to in 4 years. WOW! Things change!
  • I am very grateful for T going through my wardrobe and helping me see how I have so many different combinations of clothes. T is a great natural stylist and mixes and matches things I would never dream of. Another WOW! I have an amazing wardrobe! It’s a bit like 50 outfits with 5 pieces. She is amazing!
  • Looking forward to going to gym tomorrow. I’ve had 3 days off and am feeling a bit sluggish.
  • Practicing mindful eating yesterday. After a big breakfast, I was aware that I wasn’t really hungry at lunchtime, but would need to eat before the evening. I ate only until I felt myself feeling full and later that evening had a very light dinner.

ANZAC Friday gratitudes:
Today I am grateful for:
  • Never having had to endure living in a war zone. In this regard we are truly blessed. Thank you thank you.
  • The most amazing weather! What a beautiful autumn day. Cool morning, awesome afternoon and a nice mild evening. WOW!!
  • A wonderful day spent washing, studying, cooking for a shared dinner and feeling truly satisfied.
  • A good discussion with T about ‘agreeing to disagree’ and ‘deal breakers.’ It was great to identify that things that compromise ones values and beliefs are deal breakers and that conflict about how you fold a tea towel is resolved by just agreeing to disagree. In other words ‘don’t sweat the small stuff.’ I think T got it.
  • A fantastic ANZAC day dinner of melt in your mouth corned beef. Made my Kiwi friend’s mustard sauce to go with the beef. Delicious. Then we all watched the ANZAC day footy match. A great ending to a wonderful day :-)

  • My beautiful little garden. It brings me so much joy.
