overcome my fear of needles

Living with two roommates studying to work in hospitals definitely helps.

the bet 9 months ago

I’ve got 5 people in on the bet now. They each owe me a hundred dollars if I’m 5’4 by next year. No one believes it’ll happen, so they’re willing to join in on it.

And I owe them each a hundred dollars if I stay the same height. Some good motivation here.

fill my life with charm and adventure (read all 2 entries…)
Charm 13 months ago

My roommate and I bought hemp and beads and I made an anklet while listening to music I haven’t heard in so long. We also both colored these cool little velvet posters and stuck them up in our dorm so now it’s more colorful.

Also, I’ve been playing more video games, reading more fantasy stories, and having adventurous dreams after sleeping around 12 hours the past few nights.

fill my life with charm and adventure (read all 2 entries…)
part of the carpe diem aspect 13 months ago

Charm: all the little things from leaving notes around town to learning magic tricks to silly pictures with my friends to friendly conversations with strangers to laying underneath the stars before bed.

Adventure: all the big things from rockclimbing to road trips to random college nights to studying abroad to stupid and ridiculous dares to new clubs and sports.

Charm + Adventure = Life

find at least one thing each day that makes me happy and record it everyday for a year
I absolutely love this goal. 14 months ago

I started it about 2 years ago, but decided it’s much better to record my entries in a notebook instead. It really keeps me looking at the good things that happened in the day, and once I’ve recorded everything, I feel like the day was well spent. Even after the goal is done in February, I’ll probably continue to do this.

carpe diem (read all 3 entries…)
ok not sure where I've been.. 15 months ago

But I’ve been completely slacking on this goal…on all my goals…but I demand that above all, I work on this one the most.

I’m in college now and I’ve already taken advantage of many opportunities, but I’ve really gotta step out even more, so I’m going to start working on things like talking to all the new people around me, keeping out of my dorm to read outside or join a group playing volleyball, roping up with proactive kids who like to go out, taking an interest in all my classes, and never missing an opportunity to party all night and sleep all day :)

Play music in public
kind of... 16 months ago

Well I took my ukelele to the beach with a big group of friends, but there just so happened to be a concert going on at the same time, so we only played like half of a song.

So not done yet.

spice up my life (read all 4 entries…)
didn't even have to try 16 months ago

Once I started actually following through with fun ideas for the summer, I found that a spiced up life just came through that. Plus, getting a job really made me use my time wisely with making plans with my friends.

This summer has been filled with nonstop beach days, parties, new people, and late nights, and I really credit myself for finally learning how to be proactive and put my plans into action. And since I’m going to college in less than 2 weeks, I don’t think I have to worry about my life becoming bland again..at least for a long while.

graduate summa cum laude (read all 3 entries…)
All for that white robe 18 months ago

I cannot even describe how surprised I was to find out that I made summa cum laude. I care nothing about grades or impressing teachers, but when I found out I could make summa, I studied much harder this year to make all A’s, and right after finally accepting I’d be magna cum laude for making B’s in two classes, I was called up to a meeting at school for the summas and found out the teachers curved the grades in both of those classes, so I got all A’s!

Wearing a white robe at graduation meant a lot more to me than just the color of the robe, it meant all that studying and practice actually paid off.

lucid dream (read all 3 entries…)
I'm still going to practice 19 months ago

But last night, I definitely realized I was lucid, and suddenly everything in the dream became extremely realistic as I started searching for mirrors to walk through (I’ve heard it’s a fun thing to do while dreaming) and new places to fly around. It only lasted probably about 5 minutes, but it was totally amazing!

Have my first kiss (read all 2 entries…)
Wasn't really my first kiss... 19 months ago

But a little over a year ago, I posted about a kiss (well, deleted that entry) that was only worth it because it was a relief to say I’d finally kissed a boy.

And I’ve been waiting all this time to have the first kiss that actually meant something, and the other night that definitely happened, so even though it wasn’t my first kiss, it was definitely the first kiss that made me smile, so I’m counting this as done again.

show my peers that I have changed (read all 4 entries…)
Untitled 19 months ago

Freshman year, I was the weird girl, shy and nervous or obnoxious and loud depending on who I was around, so afraid of new people that I came across as rude and immature, never spoke aloud in class and avoided new situations because of social anxiety, rude to boys because of insecurity, and fairly obsessed with popularity.

Senior year, I am the funny girl, cool and confident around everyone, speaking aloud in class and excited to participate in new activities, calm and flirty with countless boys who have told me they thought I was cool, and fairly obsessed with having a great time with life because cliques and popularity is no longer important.

I’ve been told by many that they thought I was one of the popular kids because I realized that popularity is simply being proud of who you are. I’ve become fairly good friends with the guys I was once rude to or the kids I once envied, and I’ve learned to use my time doing things I like to do instead of what the cool thing is to do. All the small personal goals of raising my hand in class or talking to the kids around me really paid off.

I guess I thought this goal would help me to become popular in school, but instead it has showed me to just be who you are, and in that it has proved to me that I’ve not only shown my peers that I’ve changed, I’ve shown myself how much I’ve grown up.

Learn to surf (read all 4 entries…)
Originally I was going to give up on this goal 19 months ago

and switch over to learning how to skim instead. But skimming just doesn’t involve the intensity of swimming through the deep waters and the excitement of standing and riding with a huge wave and the adrenaline rush of knowing how close you are to getting clobbered in the ocean.

This summer, I WILL learn how to surf and I WILL practice as often as I can.

have an adventure (read all 3 entries…)
i'm considering going crazy 20 months ago

and just going on a full out hitch hiking across the country Chris McCandless kind of adventure. This is the last summer before college, which will have plenty of adventure lol, but my best friend and I have thought about a humongous summer road trip…no parents…no rules…no guidelines…just adventure.

speak japanese
the most confusing language ever 21 months ago

But I’m planning on studying abroad in Japan in college so best start learning the language now. I can write in Hiragana pretty well and I’ve been practicing with a book and CD, but the language is so different from English that it’s gonna take me a while.

Sing a solo (read all 3 entries…)
Christmas concert 2 years ago

Also, at the Christmas concert at school, I sang in two duets, one trio, and one quintet. And I didn’t mess up the words or notes for any of them. :D
