My mom is a professor and her friend is a journalism professor. He recommended to her I try to freelance some of my analysis. I’m going to email him this week and ask if we could talk on the phone or meet up to discuss tactics.

How I did it: I had family friends who rented the lower portion of their house. I became the tenant. That was easy. Finding part-time work took a lot of persistence. Conversations with people in stores and at various volunteer events yielded full-time opportunities. Part-time jobs meant calling, calling, calling. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had zero ingredients soooo, I went to the grocery store. Ingredients are (from Men's Health):2 mahi mahi (about 6 oz. each) 1 jar roasted red peppers (12 oz.)1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil1 tbsp sherry or red-wine vinegar1/2 tsp cuminsalt and pepper. After gathering all the good stuff, I found a cooking partner--in this case, my mom. 1. I’m up to 20,000 words. It’s been a little over a month and a half of serious writing. The system I’m using is strange. But I’m only writing 26 minutes each day.
I edit the previous 2-3 days worth (which can take 10 minutes or 40). I then write for the minimum of 26 minutes. I add between 400-800 words each day.
This is my third novel attempt and this structure has proven beneficial. I was totally lost in my other attempts. Currently, I feel very much in control.
So I’ve been using the website Livemocha.com to get started on my Japanese-ing. I’m not very far, but I think it’s a good way to at least learn some things. And free. Great community too. Give it a shot. And find me on there. cjhlambert
