I’ve wanted to move to Portland for many years, but my husband likes tropical Florida, where we’ve lived for 25 years. In March 2009 I learned I would be getting a divorce; from here to where with the rest of my life? I decided I would take the leap and move to Portland. My daughter is moving with me; we would already be there, but we are moving with our 7 pets, 3 small dogs and 4 aging cats. We cannot (and would not) leave them behind. We are driving, and need to wait until we are sure the chance of measurable snow is pretty much over in the Rockies. I’m currently saving money for the move. I telecommute and can work anywhere, so finding a job is not an issue. The only difficulty will be finding a rental that will accept our pets. I’m hoping because I work at home and my daughter is a veterinary assistant that an owner/landlord will view us more favorably. We are vegetarians, environmentally-conscious, love the outdoors, so Portland will be great for us. I am also a writer and am looking forward to plugging into the Portland literary scene.
