DUH. I know better. I rewarded myself for an accomplishment by downing a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. NEVER reward yourself with food. There are thousands of wonderful gifts you can give yourself that have no calories and will make you feel better in the long run, not just the short term.

I became very frustrated today while in PetSmart trying to buy bedding, food bowls, and toys for two dogs I’m getting tomorrow. I couldn’t find a single toy or bedding product that was not made in China. The minute I got home I wrote a letter to PetSmart. I’ll be doing this every time I can’t find products I want. The stores can’t know how you feel if you don’t tell them.
This is not quite going as planned. I didn’t exactly reduce my spending, but at least I redirected some of it to a better place. I dumped a service that was costing me about $22 a month and not doing me much good. I then adopted two shelter dogs and their care is going to be more than that, but it’s a much better place for my money to go. So I’m learning that getting my finances in order is not just about cutting spending but also spending on better things. Next I’m dropping my land phone line, which I rarely every use.
