How I did it: This may be a cheat, but I listed a goal I had already done (but I want more fourteeners!). After finishing the draft of my MS these in 1989 I took a 7 week car trip up and down the southwest, and hit the tops of Lassen and Mt Wheeler (Nevada, a shade under 13000) along with visits to Crater Lake, Mt St Helens, and, um.... I’d been doing part time work from the cabin in Strawberry, AZ (elevation 6000 ft, population 800) using satellite internet. I’m in a transition now to do most/all of my work here, dumped Hughes for local cable internet (satelite was flaky in weather, and slow to unusable for https and voip). I completed my first full marathon, Jan 13, 2008- the PF Changs Rock and Roll Marathon in Phoenix in 5:26 blogged at http://dommy.com/ihaterunning/2008/01/13/did-it/
Weather was great, even warm, the people watching cheered madly, the bands played music, and all that was nice, but I cannot say I would do it again.
The first 14 felt pretty good, and I was likely going a few clicks faster that I should have; I had a prolonged fade, and was pooped at 22 when I shifted to run/walk pattern. It was not all the fun, but just accomplishing it, and getting across the line, was worth it.
