I abandoned ‘Worse Than Watergate’. I need a rest from political novels I think.
So I stole my sister’s In Cold Blood, by Trueman Capote. I am about halfway through, and really enjoying it. The story itself, a murder and subsequent investigation, I would usually find really uninteresting. I hate detective type narratives in anything. I think it is Truman Capote’s fantastical writing that make this book so good that even I really like it. More thoughts when I finish it…

Finished:
Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ (young person’s guide)
The photography in this book is what really makes it. There are amazing pictures of the earth from 4 million light years away, and before/after comparisons, and polar cap melting satellite imagery. I think the images are what make the film work so well, and so I think this ‘young person’s guide’ with it’s emphasis on the visual is actually much more effective than the straight novel version would be (though I haven’t read that version.)
S E Hinton’s ‘The Outsiders’
I really liked it although I thought it was a bit contrived in places. Hinton certainly doesn’t subscribe to the ‘show-don’t-tell’ technique. Plus, you can tell it was written by a female- males just don’t talk to one another that way, even if they do adore one another. Still, I very much enjoyed.
And have started John W Dean’s ‘Worse Than Watergate’
I finished ‘Ambling Into History: the unlikely odyssey of George W Bush’, and I loved it. I even made notes!
Started S E Hinton’s ‘The Outsiders’ yesterday.
I am SUCH a good girl.
