Kicking every ball – Roberto Martinez

I enjoyed reading this book as a Swansea City supporter and got through it in one day. It’s not an amazing book but it was really interesting to see what it was like for him when he was forced out of the club as a player and the differences between the coaching of youth players in Spain and England. Highly recommended for any Swans supporter.

Philosophy on the go – Joey Green

I had this book for my birthday and to be honest, it isn’t the type of thing I would usually go for but I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. It explains the basic notions behind philosophical ideas and also has humorous themes running through it. What was useful was the little synopsis he does on several books which is a decent guide on future reads.

If you want an introductory book to Philosophy, I highly recommend you get this.

Dragon’s Den, Success from Pitch to Profit

It’s quite ironic I was given this book to read after the last one I read and reviewed just below this entry..

This book contains chapters from the five current investors in Dragon’s Den and Richard Farleigh the Australian investor who used to be on the show. I enjoyed this book and I think this can be illustrated by the following quote:

”..I wasn’t sitting around weeping. I was thinking ‘Well I’ve got myself into this situation, I’m going to get out of it. It’s as simple as that. There’s no point in crying over split milk. I’ve lost my BMW, my Porsche, my house, I’ve lost everything. Well it’s not the end of the world’ I’d put myself in that situation through naiverty. I’m not naieve anymore..”

- Peter Jones on rebuilding after his first major business collapsed

I have a lot of admiration for people like Peter Jones and entrepreneurs in general who not only have the ability to see clearly into a market and see what needs to be done, but also have the sack to put their money or house down on the line to pursue it and if that fails, the strength to start over again.

Evan Davis (the presenter) also has a very good chapter which is aimed at giving guidance to people who have businesses and need advice on how to deliver a successful pitch. If you like the show, are interested in entrepreneurialship or success in general then I highly recommend this book.

I’m aware I’m really behind on this goal, but it can and will be done!
