This is something I am closest to accomplishing. I have been getting up regularly at 6:30a.m.
Getting up early (even when my body wants to snooze that extra hour) gives me a psychological advantage—the fact that I have started my day ahead of many others! (Ignoring the fact that by the end of the day it all evens out!)
But I guess I also like ‘life’ at that hour—the ambient sounds & smells, the quality of light & air. The lull before the droning traffic takes over.
And there being some purpose in wishing someone, “Good morning!”
I could give a zillion (read, a few) reasons for wanting to sleep early – but the only one which is irrefutable is ‘health’. Notwithstanding my schedules in my student days & then early professional life – by nature I am an early sleeper. If I have to keep awake into the night for a longer period of time it manifests itself through all the symptoms one associates with lack of sleep – dark circles under the eyes, hair & weight loss, screwed appetite etc.
So why do I still stay up later than 11 p.m.?
TV ‘primetimes’ being pushed later; extra hours spent at work; ‘genuine’ mental stress; wanting to squeeze that extra hour from the day; and last but not the least—the fact that your favourite chatters are nocturnal creatures! :-p
I guess rehabilitation is just around the corner. Let’s see.
