I’m going to try and start this next week (after I hand in my dissertation)for a time limited period of 3 months. Hopefully then it will be the impetus to massively reduce the amount of plastic i use in day to day life and to have changed some of my habits. I think I am going to try and make a list of things that I really can’t do without (eg medicines, toothpaste….hmm there is more I’m sure but I can’t think of it at the moment).
My friend has also set up a UK based website with tips on how to cut out plastic: http://www.notoplastic.org.uk/ which I plan to post lots of questions on-What do people do about binbags for example?

One of my friends has set up a website to encourage and help people give up plastic for Lent. As I’m doing my dissertation at the moment there is no way I can give it up for Lent (I just can’t complicate my life any further right now). However, once I’ve handed in on 15th of March 2009, I intend to to quit plastic for 3 months and then use that as the impetus to cut my plastic usage right down permanently. it is certainly going to be interesting as my partner that I live with has said he doesn’t want to give it up….I forsee a few dilemmas on that count.
The website that my friend set up is called http://www.notoplastic.org.uk/
It is based in Lancaster, UK but they are looking for people to blog about their experiences of giving up plastic across the UK, or even further afield. If you are interested in blogging about this just contact my friend Ele via the website

The cake was marvellous, and well worth it for the reaction from the guy it was for, but sadly i didn’t mix anything with the snickers when i melted it in the microwave so it formed a very solid kind of toffee on top of the cake.
If you want to make the snickers icing yourself I’d reccommend making it in a bain-marie(a bowl in a saucepan of boiling water on the stove) and mixing it with some butter to stop it from going solid again.
Incidently the only reason I didn't do this myself is because I'm in China and the only thing available that is anything like butter is this vile claggy substance that tastes a bit like very cheap icecream............
