find a research position at a non profit

Job searching is hard, trying to weigh the cost of living versus doing what you really want to do. What I really want to do is in DC area, that’s where there are opportunities versus looking in the midwest (Ohio/Indiana) where cost of living is GREAT but no non-profit library/research opportunities.

So, after two months of frustratingly trying to find a [meaningful] job to apply to in a nice place with great cost of living, I may have sold my financial soul to the devil in order to contribute the way I want to, to this life, through in my professional endeavors and career.

Found a great job in DC to apply to that is with a non-profit and it is a research/information job.

For two months I’ve been miserable, not allowing myself to face the facts of having to give up some financial success in order to do what is meaningful to me.

I hope it works out.

have twins
children are not in the picture yet but... 5 months ago

I think about this A LOT because fraternal twins are genetic (identicals are NOT), and my grandmother (mom’s mom) was a fraternal twin, and my mom is a fraternal (NO fertility drugs, involved in either case!)... but my mom did not have twins. I am thinking it skipped a generation? Maybe I will have fraternal twins. I found out there are twins on my dad’s side and in my husband’s family!

I guess I’ve completed this goal, I’ve been doing research for almost a year, for a non-profit group dedicated to helping indigenous cultures. Yay for me. I love doing it.. and as I job search now after completing my masters I get frustrated that most of the selfless make the world better vocations are not actual jobs that pay you.
