We picked 7 pounds of raspberries one beautiful afternoon. We returned two weeks later expecting the field to be done, but collected another 5 pounds.
Then we turned our attention to apples. The first trip we picked over 10 pounds. We ate crisp apples all week, and made pie and froze a bag of peeled slices.
On the next trip we collected another 15 pounds of apples. A dinner conversation about caramel apples at the fair inspired me to make a quick batch of caramel with chopped pecans, vanilla, cinnamon and salt. I drizzled this over slices of fresh apple and the table was so happy that all three kids were silent as they scooped up every last bit of caramel from the bottom of the bowl.
