Since I left college for a semester, I figured out I had to occupy myself with something, so I grabbed a huge-ass book about C and set myself a commitment: in 1 month I had to get the hang on implementing data structures in C. Yes, in C.
It really worked. Now I have a spankin’ new, fully functional linked list sitting in my hard drive, and I even took a couple of minutes to port the whole thing to Java. It even served me to notice the difference between C and Java: C involves a lot of tedious manual work, while Java takes care of that stuff automatically and lets you focus on your program.
I declare this thing complete!

I entered the networks and telecommunications major in 2005 at the ITESO in Guadalajara, Mexico. If everything goes as planned, I’ll be getting my licenciatura (kinda like an American B.S. degree) in 4 semesters. It’s one of the toughest majors in the entire college, only after electronics, chemistry and mechanics, but I’ve been reading quite a bit and it’s definitely worth it: there’s a serious shortage of computer specialists in Latin America, and there I have a huge opportunity for success! :D

Last year we went to a friend’s house at Lake Chapala. I was really eager to drive on the road for the first time, especially because I can already drive in the beltway, and if you can drive in the beltway of Guadalajara, you can drive anywhere.
Well, I tell you, there’s nothing as hard as driving in a super-narrow two lane road in the middle of the night, with the middle line erased!
Let’s just say I was so scared I was driving at 40 km/h with the emergency lights on, with the headlights at full power, and I was telling my friends “Please, tell me if I’m leaving the road, please!!!”. DDDX
The next time, fortunately, was during the day. It was still a very narrow mountain road, but damn, was it worth it! We stayed at a house in the mountains of southern Jalisco, in the middle of the forest, the weather was cool and pleasantly cloudy, and we had an awesome night with some bottles of Johnny Walker and the most awesome people I’ve ever met. :D
So, I can declare this thing complete!

So, this semester I moved my old magazines to a corner, put my toys in a box lying in my basement, then I put more of my magazines in the drawers I was using for that, and I removed those videogame posters from my wall that were hanging for 6 years so far; I have enough of them. And really, my room is better than before. ^^

Last year, I had a cyst removed from my lower back. The doctors removed quite a bit of flesh, so it took like 4 months before that thing healed. This year, in January, I rode my bike for a week or so, then I saw blood on my ass. The scar had opened again, and the doctor saw it and said “I think you won’t be able to do any exercise for at least a year”.
Conclusion: I’ll be doomed to not being able to work out for a year. And trust me, it really sucks having all the energy in the world to work out but not being able to. DDDX

Let’s face it: no matter how much you try to relax, college just won’t let you. Ever. No matter how much filler subjects you take, you’ll never relax. I had to pull two all-nighters at school this semester!
I did took a bit of measures to be more relaxed though. I took three filler subjects: artistic drawing, information technology (kinda like telecommunications engineering for social communication students), and Visual BASIC .net (I already knew VB 6 from high school so it was easy pickings). And it did paid off. The second half of the semester was stressful as usual, but on the first half, for the first time ever I could return home with enough energies to stay awake a little bit. ^^

After years and years of trying and failing, I finally figured out why I couldn’t seemed to be able to draw. It was the art class from middle school. DDD:<~
Just to let you know, the class was in a dark, dank hole where there was barely any sunlight or even electric light. There was not enough chairs. There was never enough supplies. Pencils, crayons, chalks and pastels were flying everywhere. I just couldn’t concentrate at all! It was the worst class I’ve ever took in my life. I ended up doing only the minimal work necessary to get a B+ on that class. From then, the only art I ever did were three comics in high school for biology, philosophy and social studies, and that was because the teacher said “You have to do a comic, and I don’t give a shit if you can’t draw! If you really can’t, just give me a stick figure comic!”.
So I took artistic drawing at college… and that was all I needed. ^_^ The teacher was the coolest lady I’ve ever met, she’s one of those gentle women who never get mad at anyone or anything. We did had to buy our own supplies, and they were kinda expensive, mind you ($18 for a box of 24 Prismacolor pencils and even then it was cheap!), but the light in the classroom was perfect, maybe a little bit cramped but that was OK, we didn’t had to worry about supplies since we had our own, and not only are college people much, much more mature than middle school kids, but they were also cool people. I even got to meet a cool girl, and in the process, I developed my nonexistant drawing skills to a degree that may not be perfect, but at least enough to get started ^^
I hereby declare this life-long goal finished!

Let’s see…
- C language: done, I picked it up in programming 1, then saw more of it in operating platforms (the teacher made us work with some damn tough codes we had to figure out on our own D:), and then I took a DSP programming course which taught me stuff about C for microcontrollers.
- Java: done, my data transmission teacher made me write a Huffmann compressor. I never finished it, but I was damn close, and I did it in Java. It was my crowning moment of awesome ^^
- VHDL: done, saw it on digital electronics 101, got better at it in digital networking systems. It’s kinda weirdo at first, because programming in VHDL is designing hardware while writing software, but you finally get used to it (especially when you have to plug a programmable chip to the computer’s serial port… that was so fucking tough!).
- Visual BASIC .net: done, saw it this semester. Didn’t liked it, but at least it stinks less than VB 6. I miss the control arrays though… they were really awesome, you could hide 60 buttons with just a little For loop. Database access is much, much easier in .net though.
The ones I’d really like to learn are C++, PHP and at least one scripting language, like Ruby or Python. Prolog would be cool too, and I have a book around gathering dust. This goal is still in progress.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Ramiro bought himself a brand new “bridge camera” (i.e., something not as kickass as a reflex but better than a compact), and even though it lacked some cool trinkets that my dad’s camera has, I did managed to take some quite cool pictures by playing with composition, the depth of field, proportions and stuff like that.
I always had the skill and I think I picked it from my photography class in high school, and my dad’s photography magazines. I just had to find it. Thing complete!

Learning to cook is pretty much all about getting started with a couple of recipes, getting used to the kitchen, and that’s it. The latter was kinda hard because I never know where my mom puts her stuff D: but I eventually found it, and now I can easily cook anything I find on the Intertubes. ^^

When you’re in college, with different classmates every single semester, you invariably end up becoming much more social and outgoing.
And that’s especially if you’re in an engineering major, and especially, if you’re in something about computers. Teamwork in business, finances or social communication is like “I do X, Alice does Y, Bob does Z, everyone is responsible for his own stuff, we talk it over the MSN”. Teamwork in engineering, however, is more like “Bob, Alice and I will meet at the lab at 11:00 AM and spend 3-4 hours working at it”. No matter what, you will end up getting used to social interaction with people you don’t know, especially because here it’s real social interaction, and you finally feel more comfortable and more outgoing.
I hereby declare this life-long thing complete!

Finding disk space is gonna be tough, but that’s OK. After all, there’s something better than downloading the entire Inuyasha series, and that would be downloading the entire Inuyasha series in Mexican. ^^

I really want to be able to do some biking around my neighborhood, since it’s good for my legs and my heart, and it might help me lose some weight. But there’s a big problem: my college schedule will only let me do it in the last hours of the midnight, or under the burning heat of the midday.
I really have no idea on how am I gonna find the time to workout without getting the cops suspicious, or without collapsing from the massive heat.

Upgrading my wardrobe is extremely difficult for me, considering my parents won’t give me any more gold, and that they don’t seem to think looking good is important in this society. I’m putting this on hold until I get enough money to buy myself some clothes.

Now that I finally managed to conquer small talk in a classroom environment, I now have to conquer small talk in any general environment. Now that’s something that will take some time. I think I’m gonna have to hang out at the college gym for a while, and see who I can talk with.
And I mean I have to do it outside the classroom, because there ain’t no more girls in them anymore. I’m an engineering student, which means most of my classrooms are filled with 25 men, 4 girls that are just not worth it, and 1 worthy girl, usually with a boyfriend already. I need to meet more girls, but I still feel uncomfortable in these environments, even though I spent a lot of time in the gym last year. Well, actually, I just went there to do my stuff; the only interpersonal communication I had was every time a device was busy, which implied saying “Shall we take a turn each other?”; however, that was just some gym etiquette.
Hope I can do it well.

Have you wondered why is my anime archive so fucking huge, taking up like 25 DVD’s in compressed AVI format? That’s because I download them with a Bittorrent client, getting the .torrent files at Torrentz.com.
Yeah, I know anime is fucking heavy when downloaded, but it’s of much, much higher quality, with the extra bonus of being able to keep your own series for future watching. I’ve already watched Serial Experiments Lain three times, Elfen Lied twice…

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve last heard something about the girl I like. She suddenly went missing: her car is not at her place, she doesn’t answers her phone, she never logs on to MSN, and she never answers my mail.
But on Thursday, I found this girl I kinda happen to like, though I’m afraid of what could happen if I date her because she’s one of my friend’s ex. She’s one of those happy and perky girls, and she suddenly said “Wait! You have a loose eyelash”. So she took it away from my eye and said “Now press it with your hand and think a wish. Don’t say it”.
Now it’s official. I’ve finally held the hand of someone I like. Thing complete!

Where the hell is the “goal report” button? I just found people who want to overdose on drugs, and now, the Thinspiration Society? Do me a fucking favor!
You girls really give me the creeps. I’m gonna send an e-mail to the webmasters to have this goal buried forever in the deepest circles of Hell, so you can finally remember the pleasure of filling your belly to the limit with sushi at a local buffet.
