This is my second attempt at nursing school. First time I was a 19 year old with a few personal problems and started at the wrong time, on the wrong branch; I dropped out, feeling like a massive failure, before the end of the first year. Four years later I started again aged 23, studying to become a nurse for people with intellectual disabilities. I remember thinking on my first day “oh my god, I’ll be 26 by the time I finish this… That’ll never come round”. So, I turned 26 last Sunday, and I have 4 months to go. I can say that this is one of the best things I have ever done, it’s been really hard work but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now, and I can’t wait!

How I did it: I was already able to knit (also self-taught), so I spent some time on the computers at college looking up tutorials on how to crochet and practiced, practiced, practiced! When I was able to afford it, I bought the Stitch & Bitch Crochet book, and made things that I thought were cute or fun, and within my abilities. I never made anything twice, and as soon as I felt I was able to do one stitch, I pushed myself to do the next. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I bought a massive, cheap 42" hoop from www.hoopguy.com and just practiced in front of the tv, between watching various youtube videos and videos etc on hooping.org, hoopnotica, hoopgirl and philthyhoops, and just kept on practising til I got it right! Read how I did it…
I make bento lunches sometimes for college and placement, but I can be rather lazy… But I have just bought a GORGEOUS (and insanely expensive! $35/£25 with shipping) My Neighbour Totoro bento, so it would be doing it an injustice to not use it every day!
