I adopted two beautiful New Zealand white rabbits from the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society rescue service on Sunday. They are so beautiful with their soft fur and bright pink eyes. Their eyes are very clear and bright, but still have the pink color of the interior of seashells!
Sandy is smaller but she comes to me with a scuffled up nose from her last session of interspecies bossiness. She must have learned her lesson, though, because she has been nothing but gentle (albeit bossy) with the smallest and most passive of my cats. She herds him around and butts him with her forehead and the cat loves the attention! Sandy is a bundle of love and determination, and my kitties and I loved her immediately.
Sally was very happy with her foster mom, Amy, and was not eager to move to the other end of the state. The birdchick dot com website that has all the pictures of the Disapproving Rabbits show the type of expression all my offerings of housing, food and affection received—she pulled her head back against her body and stared at me down her long, long nose. Sigh. Fortunately, I have been in contact with her foster mom, and she sent me detailed info about Sally’s diet, housing and schedule and as I change things to be as close to her previous life as possible, she is slowly warming up to her new life.
Anyway! Worth Doing! Do not buy a rabbit from the chain stores! Get a house-trained, litter box-trained, spayed or neutered pet from a rescue society! They rock!
Best wishes to all,
Andrea
