Death Wishes of an Environmentalist
Inter me not in hallowed ground.
For to no religion will I be bound.
Make me not a hardwood coffin.
Just a wicker casket to send me off in.
Carry me not with handles cast of brass.
Simply truss together some sisal grass.
Priest or preacher I don’t want to see.
Talking in tongues and standing over me.
Waste not on me good pasture land.
Any hole in the ground will do me grand.
My head needs not a silken pillow.
So lay my down on some woven willow.
Carve me not a granite tomb.
For I’m returning to my mothers womb.
Wish me not a fine farewell.
For I believe neither in heaven nor hell.
Mourn me not when I am dead.
I’ll still be around – inside your head.
