I’ve been fooling around with Ruby for a couple years now. I need to get motivated to actually use it.

I have sailboat that is moored in MDR (that is Marina del Rey, CA). It is “looking pretty rough” a buddy who had just come from the dock told me a couple weekends back. Considering the state of his boat, mine must be ready to sink to the bottom.

I told my wife, who has never been inside, that I would take her out on it for her birthday—June 27th. That doesn’t leave me much time, nor much cash to get this done.

I’ll need to have her hauled, scraped and painted. Then I should replace the rigging and lines. After which she will be seaworthy, but not comfortable.

To make her comfortable, I’ll rip out the interior and rework the whole layout. I’ll have to rewire the whole boat; adding some sort of solar solution for battery charging. Then I can detail the storage solutions and other little tricks I’ve been planning for years.

I think I’m gonna spend a ton of time cussing during this project, as well as ingest a ton of pain relievers.

...maybe not well, maybe not consistently, but I do write. Some think I’m good (My Mother!), but I try not to have an opinion about my work. I just write.

I write to keep focused. I write to fight depression. I write to make sense out of a crazy, terrible, beautiful world that comes crashing into me, like LA drivers on icy streets. I write because I need to write.
