How I did it: you just get on. it really is all that simple. if you have a destination its a little trickier. its really worth it but not for everyone. dont be a douche. find someone who knows what theyre doing to show you the ropes. that can be the hardest part, seeing as most people hopping trains are wet-brained idiots. i saw 30+ states and will never regret my 4 years out on the road. Read how I did it…
its definately a fun time living in a punk house. but sometimes it can get frustrating too. there’s ups and downs but overall its definately worth it. i was paying my rent by flying signs with kids who were travelling thru. at this point in my life though i wouldnt do it again. i just feel like im gettin older and i treasure privacy much more than i used to. especially after spending 2 years hopping and hitching all over the us.
you have to be seriously retarded to go hungry in this country with all the waste generated. i practically live off dumpstered food, but other than food you can find lots of other cool stuff too. like my friend jackson dumpstered a brand new pair of black carhartt bibs with the tags still on them. theres also a prostetics dumpster in seattle thats good for halloween decorations. also there are beer/wine dumpsters in almost every city, you just gotta search them out!
