Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Become a registered nurse

I’ve been a CNA, now I’m a fairly new LPN, and looking into going back to school yet again. I’m looking into a BSN program now.

Take vitamins daily (read all 2 entries…)

I wasn’t doing this consistently until I got pregnant, and I’m taking prenatal vitamins on a daily basis now!

get a tan (read all 5 entries…)

I’m discontinuing this goal. I cancelled my tanning membership, and if I get some real sun that’s great… if not, I just don’t care.

run a 5k
My first 5K

I participated in my first 5K over the weekend. I didn’t run, just alternating jogging and walking, and there were others that did the same. It was around 48 degrees and so cold! It took me 45 minutes to get to that finish line, but I still proud of myself that I did it. My legs were very sore the next day! I am going to try another one in two weeks and see what I can do.

ride more rollercoasters
Does Disney count?

I went to Disney World a couple of weeks ago, and while some the roller coasters there aren’t the super thrill seeking kind, they had some pretty good ones! Mt. Everest Expedition was great (I wouldn’t recommend going on it twice in a row, that made me a bit woozy!), and the Rock N Roll roller coaster went upside down with most of that ride in the dark.

Do NaNoWriMo (read all 3 entries…)
Not this year

NaNoWriMo didn’t happen for me this year; I just didn’t have time. Maybe next year.

Watch X-Files movie 2
Still looking

I made a trip to a theater that was supposed to be showing this, and when we got there we found out the theater was told to pull the movie due to poor response. So since we were there, we watched The Dark Knight. But I still want to see X-Files.

take better care of my teeth (read all 2 entries…)
No problems.

I had a 6 month checkup last week, and it was the first dentist appointment I’ve had in years where there were no new problems. All my dental work has been done and the X-rays were good! If my next 6 month comes back clear, I will mark this goal as finished.

exercise at least once per week (read all 3 entries…)

I worked out four days in the past week. If I can do a few days this week, I’m going to bump up my goal to three days a week.

become a CNA (read all 5 entries…)

I checked our state’s health care worker registry and I am on the list! Now I can start looking for a job (part-time). I hope to find something with flexible scheduling, as I already work full time.

Do well on the math placement test (read all 2 entries…)
It went well.

I placed into Algebra I, which is right where I wanted to be. The pre-test reviews and studying really helped me catch up on what I learned way back when.

Do well on the math placement test (read all 2 entries…)
A few days to go

I take a math placement test in just a few days. I haven’t had a math class in over a decade, and math was never my strong point in high school or college. I’ve been studying a little but don’t feel prepared yet. I’m hoping to take a math class this summer; as long as I place into at least pre-algebra or basic algebra that will be a good enough starting point for me.

exercise at least once per week (read all 3 entries…)
Joining a gym.

My boyfriend bought us gym memberships, found an awesome discount through his job, and it hardly costs anything for us to go. So now we just need to get in there to have ID cards made, and then we don’t have any more excuses.

pole dance
Fun, hard work

As part of a bachlorette party over the weekend, we went to Flirty Girl Fitness and took a class in pole dancing. It was harder than I thought it would be. You need to have some good upper body strength. I ended up with a couple of bruises and definitely sore muscles, as did a few others in the party. I think it would be a good workout and help you work on balance and flexibility.

On the home stretch

I took the written exam yesterday. Now I just have to wait for the test results, which should take 2-3 weeks.

experience an earthquake
So that's what it feels like.

There was an earthquake that went through Illinois and surrounding areas this morning that registered as a 5.4 (but now we’re hearing it might have been 5.2?). I was at work and felt the floor rumble beneath my feet for a few seconds.

I’m sure this is nothing compared to the trauma that someone in the middle of a big one could go through, and I hope I don’t have to experience that. At least I now know what one feels like.

do my taxes (read all 2 entries…)
Just in time

I finally had this listed as a personal challenge, and even though I filed the day before the deadline, I didn’t get logged in to 43things until today – so they marked it that I failed. Not true. The important thing is that I got them mailed off in time. No late fees for me :)

Eat more fruits and vegetables (read all 2 entries…)

I actually brought a salad with me to work, and forgot to bring any salad dressing. I do have an apple with me, a leftovers container with broccoli, chicken, and potato in it, and this other egg dish with spinach and artichokes in it. I doubt I will eat all that in one shift and will most likely take some back home- but I’m pretty hungry. Over the course of one day that would be a fruit and three veggies, unless you count potato as a vegetable, then that would be 5 servings of f/v. 6 if I finish off the salad.

Donate to charity (read all 2 entries…)
Something good.

I haven’t been donating to charity as much as I would like, but I did something today. I made a donation to the ASPCA. (April 10th is ASPCA day, see their website and wear orange!) I can’t take in more dogs and cats, but I still did something to help.

Go to Florida (read all 3 entries…)
A beautiful trip.

I wasn’t quite ready to come back to the midwest after being in the sun for almost a week. The trip was to Marco Island, FL and I returned two days ago. The weather was perfect until our last day there and we got rained on at the beach (but that was fun too!). I would definitely like to go back again.
