I didn’t plan on running a marathon when I started to run. I just ran for a couple years to keep the post-nuptial weight down. Then I decided to do a couple 10ks, then a half-marathon, and then, well, the full she-bang. A good training schedule will give you a mix of runs during the week which really breaks the monotony of training up nicely. The worst part is the once-per-week long runs. My last (and first) marathon, I learned a poem and recited it repeatedly as a I ran (best line for runners: “I see the milestones dwindling toward the horizon”).
I’m now training for my second to improve on my time. Depending on how this one goes, I may very well pursue my goal of qualifying for Boston. Good luck and (don’t) break a leg!
Let it be known that 2006 shall be The Year of the Child (and 2005 as The Year of the Paperwork and The Onset of Impoverishment)
