Good book, though Claire and Henry were a bit too cool for me. Great read though!

taking several starts to make a finish 2 years ago

Just finished “Duck Soup.” This movie was very much “just after” the silent era. The humor got to be a bit predictable, but it’s the first Marx brothers movie I’ve ever seen and I respect the film considering the social and cultural context.

Three more and onto "Duck Soup" 2 years ago

I’ve knocked a few off in the last couple weeks:

The Wild Bunch
I saw this in the airport on my laptop while on an overnight layover. It wasn’t boring.
Goodfellas
Finally I saw this movie! How many movies have Pesci and De Niro done together? A little long, but Ray Liotta was a pleasant surprise and the excellent filming was matched with equally excellent acting and a strong (and true, which surprised me) storyline.
2001: A Space Odyssey
Emphasis on “odd”. What was this movie about? I’m not a huge sci fi person…I’ve heard good things about the book…but seriously…could anyone shed some light on this movie? Maybe I’m just being shallow and dense, but this movie was strange. Kubrick’s direction was superb. Beautiful shots, beautiful angles, beautiful music, excellent effects. But couldn’t this movie have been like 45 minutes and not the agonizing 140+ that it was…?
MASH
Loved this movie! Donald Sutherland was so entertaining and this movie’s somewhat dark and political perspective was so enjoyable…and still very much relevant.

Biology 2 years ago

Hmmm…I seem to notice a lot of discourse regarding the genetic characteristics of this affliction called cuticle picking. Just to speak for myself here – I don’t think the “picking” is the genetic part. Anxiety runs in my family and I believe that is the biological facet of this horrible habit, for me anyway. I’ve started wearing gloves at night – if only I could just wear gloves all day…because that wouldn’t be the weirdest thing ever…
