We hang out at least one afternoon a week and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. After losing my nephew (her big brother) to SIDS, I am hyper-aware of the preciousness of the time we have together. And, while there is so much I look forward to doing with her in the future, I have learned that the important thing really is the present. That “now-ness” has absolutely spilled over into the rest of my life, too. I am reminded of Gibran:
It felt very nice to succeed in ‘06 and ‘07. I look forward to the challenge in November. Meanwhile, I should really try to polish my earlier efforts…
as my niece was born just one week ago today. Diaper changes and burpings are friendly, right? We may have to wait for the more mature aspects of our friendship to develop, but it is never too early to start fostering this bond. I can’t wait. I plan on embracing the role of Spinster Aunt with fervor and aplomb.
