Carve a pumpkin for Halloween.
Kindergarten pumpkin

My parents didn’t really know what halloween was – they didn’t understand why you’d waste a perfectly good gourd carving it up when you could cook it for soup. So when I got my very first pumpkin on a pumpkin patch visit in kindergarten I was ecstatic!!! I couldn’t wait to carve it, or roast the seeds (even though I didn’t have a clue on how to do either being that I was only 5 yo). I admired my beautiful pumpkin for a few days as it sat on our kitchen table on display. I couldn’t wait to carve it. A day or two later, I came home from school and the pumpkin was GONE. My mother had cut it up, took out its guts, and cooked it up in a stew soup. My beautiful pumpkin was gone, the unroasted seeds in the trash. I was so sad. She didn’t get it. I protested that night and refused the soup. Years and years later, I got to carve my real first pumpkin with my boyfriend, and he helped to roast the seeds we collected. Over three decades later, and I had as much fun pumpkin carving as I would have at the age of five. The simple things in life are worth experiencing, no matter how long it takes.
