I’m travelling to SeaTac Airport on Saturday so am arranging enough time to stop by the bookstore that I have heard so much about…so it seems just that my 1100th cheer be given to Garland who notes from Rhode Island that although its been a long time since she was there it is worth visiting:

I made the mistake of wearing my “Science” jacket, working at the polling station for the science undergrad society elections while a gang of thugs (some engineering students at UBC) were on the prowl…
They caught my in Hennings… and carried me, upside down… one on each arm and leg, and one squeezing me so I could hardly breathe…. upside down towards the library…. what kicking and struggling I could do only got the two thugs in front to drop their grip to my wrist….lowering my face to ground level …. while issuing the calm instuctions that we could now proceed with my nose scraping the ground, or I could agree not to fight so hard, and they would pick me up again…
As in accordance with some sort of tradition, honour of a sort I suppose, they removed my watch, belt, wallet and shoes before depositing me (to a chant and a rousing poem; tanking being a well ‘honoured’ tradtion had its own particular ceremony).... into the fountain in front of the Main Library…
Since this I’ve never had the inclination to actually throw myself into one…. but who knows, what the future could bring.
