Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

stop hating school (read all 2 entries…)

My high school sweet heart has moved on.
I’ve been reading the bible and learning more about my faith.
I’ve forgiven my high school. I have dropped my bitterness.
I’m free from hatred. I’m in control. Freedom.

post on 4chan

If you don’t want to see CP, don’t visit /b/. Or…very many of the other adult boards. But some of the others are awesome.

...I even like /b/ occasionally. If only for the senseless randomnity.

Switch to linux

Ubuntu 7.10 looks tasty.

I really just want to get one of those tasty, cheap Dell desktops that come with Ubuntu.

...did I just refer to a computer as tasty?

be more organized

I spread out. Wherever I go, wherever I crash for the night, I spread out. My stuff ends up all around me. If I establish a permanent residence…well, forget it. I embed my stuff so deep into that room that if I ever leave, prehistoric evidence of my existence there can be found millenia later.

volunteer on an Indian reservation

My girlfriend is part Native American. She’s majoring in social work. We want to travel to a reservation and help out there someday. The conditions are usually pretty bad, and I’m sure they could use lots of help.

Fall in love

True love is never lost. It never fades, it never disappears. Love lost was never true love in the first place.

And true love? SO worth it.

get married (read all 3 entries…)

I’ve known my new girl for 5 years and we’re just now official. I’m happier and less worried about my future than I’ve been in…well, ever. I think she may be the one.

There’s always hope. <3

finish my album (read all 2 entries…)

I just have to order the copies. I’ve done ittttttt!

Almost there...

I’m so. Close. I have 2 more songs to record. It would probably go a lot faster if a.) I had a band and therefor didn’t have to track everything myself and b.) was less of a procrastinator.

I am using my own home studio, though, so that’s good; no recording costs.

Delone Avenue scheduled for release sometime before holiday 2007. Woohoo!

stop hating school (read all 2 entries…)

I’m totally bitter about everything relating to education. I hate everything about the education industry and it’s retarded employees, marketers and consultants. When education becomes a business or an industry, it’s time for a overhaul.

I will never forgive my high school.

At least I’m training for a career at this point.

She ended it.

oh how quickly things can change right under your nose.

Make money doing what i love

Music or writing. I’m studying to be a web developer. I think I’d like to do that too. But ideally, I’d just be a vagabond writer or musician.

write a novel

I have THREE half-started novels just sitting in a folder named “writty” (John Lennon’s tongue-in-cheek term for writing). Whenever I read an author that I like (mostly Kerouac, oddly enough), I feel really motivated to write. But when I sit down, I lose spirit.

I should really just DO IT.

Do it. Now.

You will never go back.

be free spirited.

Free my spirit from all those who want to entrap it. All people and all things in the way of my spirit being FREE need to be cast aside, let go, and not worried about.

On the flip side, I need to EMBRACE those things that make my spirit feel free. Make myself feel less tied-down, apprehensive and insecure about life.

Write more
Writing more.

I figured the best way to write more is to write an entry about writing more. Makes sense, right?

The main problem with writing is feeling good about what I write. If I feel like my previous writing experience wasn’t too good, I don’t really have too much of a desire to write again. The trick is to shut up, turn off your apprehensive mind, and write.

Love is worth the wait

I’m already in love.
I just want to wait until I’m stable and financially sound…and more mature than I am now.

live in an intentional community

I live in a Christian intentional community known as Emmaus in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We run a cafe, thrift store, and concert venue, and we house the occasional vagabond traveler. It has been the most rewarding experience of my life and I hope to be able to continue to do so.
