You can hack your Nintendo DS using open source DS libraries, such as the ones that come with devKitPro .
The 3 hardware items you will need to do homebrew DS development are:
- A GBA memory card reader
- A memory card itself
- A DS Super Key cartridge to override the DS boot software to allow it boot files off the GBA memory card
There’s a ton of information online just search for DS Homebrew.
I posted some of the more useful resources on my blog

I want to keep a notebook to capture any idea or brain dump that I can come up with.
I always feel like I let things go to easily or that I don’t have a good place to put things down that I can go back and look at.
I want to keep meticulous notes on all the projects that I attempt. As well as any new knowledge I gain either while reading a book, a website, or listening to a podcast.
As well as keeping detailed graduate class notebooks, and work notebooks.
I want to use these notebooks to prompt me to write more articles and developer blog entries, which will help my synthesize the knowledge that I learn.
I’ve come up with a system of using a regular 1 subject 100 sheet 11×8.5 lined notebooks as my standard notebook that I’ll label for use depending on the context (grad class, personal log, work). I’m also trying to maintain a smaller personal journal in a large moleskin notebook (mainly because they have an extremely cool aesthetic).
I’m trying to use the Getting Things Done methodology and maintaining another additional notebook for my @actions lists, but I find sometimes using a blank sheet of paper organized in file folders sometimes is easier when trying to capture spontaneous brain storms and action lists that will be thrown away later.
