Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

with Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt. Not too bad, not too great either—but a decent bit of scifi mind candy if you are willing to lower your expectations.

Major improvements!

So I’ve been doing daily exercises on my Wii Fit Plus, and at least 3-4 days out of the week those have included my 15 minute Wii yoga workout.

Might not sound like much compared to others; but for me, this is a HUGE improvement in my ability and tolerance level. I still have problems with my old knee and back injuries, but I’m hoping to help limber them up in the long run, as long as I don’t overstress them.

Learn to cope with my newly-diagnosed diabetic cat (read all 4 entries…)
Getting it down to a routine

So I think I’ve managed to get my cat and I settled into a bit of a comfortable routine that makes it easier to give him his insulin shot.

First, I have several syringes pre-filled and waiting in the fridge; this makes it a lot easier when I’m having to wake myself up to give his shot. No more fumbling while half asleep trying to fill a syringe!

I take one of the syringes out of the fridge to allow it to warm to room temperature while I mix up some of the low fat, low carbo, high protein canned cat foods that I’ve researched are best for his condition.

I mix the cat food paté with extra water, to help keep him hydrated, which is very important in his situation. It also makes it easier for him to eat and digest, which is also important since he had lost so much weight.

I tuck him on my lap while sitting at the kitchen counter and give him his filled bowl. He sits his haunches on my lap and places his two front paws on the counter on either side of his bowl and starts chowing down – it’s important that he has food in his system when he is about to be given insulin.

I give him plenty of pets and cuddles and encouragement, and after he’s eaten a bit, I give him his shot. Most of the time he barely twitches now, so this whole ritual is working out for both of us. Neither of us gets overly-stressed and it’s not as big a deal anymore – I’m so glad of that!
