I eat fairly healthy, but the fact that I’m still overweight tells me I’m still doing something wrong. Dr. Fuhrman’s approach isn’t as “user friendly” as some others, which tell you you can eat anything you want and still lose, but it makes sense and you can’t deny it’s healthy. I started today with a cup of cumin-scented garbonzo beans, a big salad with little dressing and a large handful of strawberries. Intend on a couple of big black bean, fajita enchiladas (w/green sauce) for lunch, and maybe some carrots.

In my teens and twenties, I made everything, from coats to underwear, including swimwear (there was a high-end swimwear fabric mill down the street!). Haven’t sewn garments for years, but think about it several times a week. I design stuff in my head, but never settle down enough to make anything. I’ve recently made 2 beautiful (if I say so myself) double-sided, pieced aprons, from brilliantly colored quilting cottons. Gave one to a girlfiend, who told me I could sell it for at least $50. The colors in the aprons really got me going about the sensual nature of fabric again. I’m going to start by making a kimono as a summer robe. Years ago, I made a couple for myself and a few for my sisters and girlfriends. The hard part is deciding on colors/fabrics! Then, I want to develop and test a couple of jacket patterns. I see them in my head, but just have to settle down and do it.
It keeps snowing and raining in the Twin Cities area this Spring of 2008, but I’m determined to plan and go on some day hiking trips after it gets warm this year with my husband, who’s supportive. It will help us get out of the rut, make a goal, see things we haven’t seen before, enjoy the fresh air and maybe meet some new people I’m not talking about walking around the neighborhood, or my walk/run in the St. Paul skyways over lunch hour, but an honest-to-goodness hiking boots/day pack, at least 4 hours heavy walk – ideally over rough terrain. Low cost and good for both of us!
