When you think about the probability of two celestial objects having a relationship, such that a moon is 400 times smaller than a star that “just happens” to be 400 times further away…...it makes you realise how rarely this happens.
I “saw” my first in Cornwall(uk) in 1998 under cloudy skies, it was eerie but when i saw a full and clear eclipse in Botswana in 2003 it took my breath away. It was early morning and being somewhere so open and flat meant we could see light beyond the shadow.
Next best opportunity appears to be China/Nepal in July 2009 (Nasa!) – so get yourselves to Nepal, THAT would be a great place to see one.
