I went to visit Hawaii in March, had a job interview, and got the job—I’m moving to Hawaii! It’s a big move but I’m very excited about it! Wish me luck!

How I did it: Just tried to make myself open to others, tried to show them the "real" me and not prejudge anyone. I've met people through making my move (the 2 girls I stayed with when I first got here), work (my new office mate and colleagues), and where I live (neighbors). I'm open to making more, though. How I did it: I was waiting for someone else to be able to move and when that was no longer holding me back, I kept my eyes open for jobs, applied for one, got it, and never looked back! It's not an easy move and it does take some adjustment but I love it! Read how I did it…
Sometimes we hold onto people that only bring negativity into our lives. I don’t throw people away but I also don’t suffer fools easily. I’m become more selective as I’ve gotten older - about just about everything - but especially about who I spend my time with. I try to remember that I can’t change other people, I can only change myself. If I accept the other person as a friend, then I accept them and their annoying habits—but it’s not up to me to change them; that is their job.
I went to grad school in my 40’s and got my Ph.D. in Psychology - it was well worth it. The intellectual stimulation is amazing and you’re steeped in what you (hopefully) love. It’s tough, though - takes a lot of work and dedication and learning how to deal with academics and academia. I loved it, though—one of those periods of my life I will also look back on with a lot of emotion.
