I sent in an application for a non-profit I’d like to support. In the past I’ve donated time, money, and items to them. I like the goals of that organization and the positive impact they provide for the community.

How I did it: There are three basic ways to approach the CCNA. The first option is to take a bootcamp course. The second option is to take courses either offered from colleges, the Cisco Networking Academy, or other 3rd party trainers. The final and most affordable option is the self study route.I went the self study route. Initially I borrowed Richard Deal's book CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide (Exam 640-802)… Read how I did it…
I was not prepared for the exam. I went ahead and took it anyways. It was a bit stressful and I really struggled with time management. It is difficult to establish a good rhythm for the exam because the types of questions can appear in any order.
The simulation and simlet questions take much more time than the multiple choice questions. In addition you cannot revisit a question once it has been answered.
The total allowed exam time is 90 minutes and the exams have 45-55 questions. I spent the first 35-40 minutes on the first 10 problems. I felt extremely rushed but ended up finishing with 15 minutes after answering my final question.
My preliminary Examination Score Report shows a grade of Pass. I’m going to wait for the official exam results before I mark this as done.
- I need to schedule the exam.
- I need to rate my proficiency for the various topics that may appear on the exam.
- I would like to review material by reading the ICND1 and ICND2 study guides. I’m not sure if I’ll review all the material or just focus on specific topics.
- I have about 20 labs to finish in the network simulator. I would like to complete these by Wednesday.
- I’m going to take the four practice exams that came with one of my study guides.
- I probably should examine the CDs that came with the Cisco Press books but that doesn’t seem to be a high priority.
- I need to switch my keyboard layout back to QWERTY and watch my typing speed and accuracy plummet to laughable levels.
