I’ve recently come to the conclusion that like women, men too have a biological clock that ticks down until about 30.
But it’s got little to do with children directly. It is the urge to own one’s own place. I want a HOUSE! Or in this city, I’d like a CONDO! I don’t know, something that I could afford on a salary that is less than $100k. San Francisco is expensive folks!
That’s ok. I’m not daunted by this task. But I turned 30 this year, and I’ve felt the urge to get property since sometime in my last year of my 20s.
[house, house, house, house…]
Yes, that ticking feeling is getting stronger and almost unbearable at times. Ladies, I now sympathize with you on the baby urges. Whew! It doesn’t sit with me all day, so long as I am distracted, but in the quiet moments, it’s just [house, house, house, house…]
ACK! Ok, I’ll probably start saving heavily, and torturing myself by looking at homes I can’t afford yet. But it will happen.

One of my best friends is a trained opera singer. That and another ex of mine from years ago was a vocal performance major. Between the two of them, I never wanted to sing in public again.
YARRRRGH! SO I sing in the car and in the shower and sometimes at home when my roommate is around. But that’s it. I want to sing better! I was kicked out of choir in 6th grade, not because I wasn’t good at singing, but because the evil choir teacher, Mr Hiser, kicked about half the class out for misbehavior. I just happened to be in the wrong side of the riser at the wrong time. Sigh…

I lived half my childhood on North Padre Island, so beach bonfires were a wonderful event my family did usually twice a month. Now that I live 4 blocks from the beach in San Francisco, I’ve done this a time or two here.
It’s so worth it. Bring a very fun group of friends, some blankets or warm clothing in case it gets chilly, loads of wood (wood palettes work well), a legal place to do it and go for it! Bring several coolers of drinks and if there are sand dunes, play “dune tag.” There’s no better work out than running up and down sand dunes in the cool of the night, feeling the breeze of the ocean blow gently past you while your adrenaline is pumping. Dune Tag is like Hide and Go Seek, but at night with only the light of the fire and possibly some moonlight, it’s VERY fun. Just be sure the dunes you play in are free of sharp objects (broken glass, etc.). Make one car nearby “base” and go for it!
