One week down...

Well, so far I’m feeling fantastic, but at first I felt really cranky for a few days (I think maybe it was a detox thing because I had headaches too). Now that I’m on the other side of the cranky, I have heaps of energy and just somehow feel ‘cleaner’. My digestion is the best that its ever been; I never thought I had any problems before but in comparison to how it is now, it was dreadful!

Its been kind of funny from the discipline point of view; twice I’ve thought, ‘Oh, yoghurt (or ‘oh, cheese’)... I’ll have a little taste of that…” and then totally regretted it, not because I felt guilty (I’m happy to see this as a habit I’m building rather than an all-or-nothing endeavour), but just because animal foods are beginning to put me off a bit and don’t taste good to me compared to the great vegan stuff I’ve been eating like hommous or bean burritos.

So, I’m really starting to get used to this and I think its a change I’ll be very happy to embrace in the long term. That said, it HAS only been a week, and there’s a long way to go from here!

OMG YUM!

This is awesome, and so much easier than I expected (that said, its only day three)! I haven’t had any cravings at all.

Yesterday I had raw muesli with soy milk, then homemade felafel wraps with tabouli (from the parsley in my garden) and hommous that I’d made. A couple of nights before that we had kidney bean nachos (for me to say goodbye to cheese!) but the salt on the corn chips made me feel a bit rubbish…

Next stop, veganism!

I just feel SO MUCH BETTER! Heaps more energy, a lot happier because I’m not feeling guilty about what I eat, clear skin, better digestion, financially better off, preferring the taste of what I’m now eating…

I still don’t know how to cook tofu in a way that I find appealing, but that’s okay – I’m getting what I need, and enjoying tofu when I eat out… I love chickpeas (garbanzo beans) and all the other great stuff like hommous, tabouli, bean burritos… My husband thinks bacon is a food group but has had nothing but good things to say about the food at home now.

I’m trying to make the transition to veganism now. I was previously a vegetarian for 4 years, so I would suggest taking it slower than I have if you need to in making the change yourself, but it is SOOO worth it!
