I finished in a time of 1 hr 44 mins and 50 seconds, which was a whole 10 seconds inside my target time!!! and around 7 and a half minutes better than my old pb.
Didn’t go off too quickly and even “killer hill” didn’t seem quite so bad this time. It was still tough, but I still had something left after climbing it, to be able to do the last 3 miles fairly strongly.
Most important though, I enjoyed myself and had a great time.
Edited on 26/06/07 – Feeling it now though, my legs are killing me, my calves felt tight for the rest of the afternoon on Sunday, now, it’s my quads and hamstrings which are giving me gyp.

if I’m not fit enough to beat my pb now, then I’m not going to be. Training’s gone well, but there’s only two rest days to go before the big day, so carbing up and drinking plenty to make sure I’m well hydrated is now the order of the day.
I’ve printed off a copy of some mile times which I’ll need to meet if I’m going to beat my previous time and also achieve my target time, which I’ll pin to my top, so I can refer to it as I’m going along.
Might do it again next year anyway, I’ve enjoyed training this time and finding new routes has helped.
Just remember what I’ve learnt – don’t go off too fast at the beginning, quick leg turnover going downhill to minimise the braking effect, don’t dwell on “killer hill” – physically or mentally, but most of all – enjoy myself!

It is better to sleep on things beforehand than lie awake about them afterward.
