Finished the first draft and propose to meet with leader next Tuesday. Hopefully by next Friday I can have some concrete things to show to my boss.

For the first time I realize that tools are actually useful to help with a project.
Looking at current one I am working on, the project has a good aim but just feel that it is not executed fully.
From a tool perspective: first step leading change we are doing fine. Agreed on what’s in scope and what’s out (maybe should extend to 09 since it’s already mid of 08). We know what’s critical for our success (vendor, support, funding, time, etc). Roles & responsibility of the team fully understood.
Step 2 building a shared need is where we are lacking of. No specific program goals articulated. We haven’t identified individual stakeholder needs and level of commitment (maybe the leader has done in his head but I didn’t see his followup action in addition to talking to a list of people).
Step 3 creating a vision although we have a vision statement, we didn’t translate it to simple elevator speech and no communication plan followed!
Step 4 mobilizing commitment again we only have a simple communication plan with team and steering committee but not with all stakeholders. We do have a fully functional team structure though.
Step 5 changing systems/structures we never identified key systems/strucutre changes when needed.
Step 6 monitoring progress. Yes we do have a high level program plan. We don’t have more detailed workstream plans with workstream leaders. Draft metrics for program tracking and PMO accountability are not well identified.
In summary, I didn’t do a good change management job for the project! I need to think it through one more time and have a conversation with the project leader.
