I think this was God’s way of saying we need to look at the problem of poverty, but it has quickly turned away from that and onto passing out the federal money to businesses to rebuild and to make sure they make enough money, President Bush lowered the minimum wage those businesses can pay thier workers. I think President Bush believes in a different God than I do.

No Child Left Behind has been touted by some as the answer to the problems in education, and by others as just another problem. I worked in the Oklahoma City District for over 10 years before I became disabled, and I have seen education go from bad to worse to non-existant. Now the focus is on computer programs to get students to show progess on mandated tests. I tried to teach my students to think and I was fired. My first year of teaching, I had one math text book, a few geography workbooks, and a fee outdated
Science books. This was a school that was created with a federal grant, but all the grant money went to the administrators of the program and almost none to the students.
I think people are all missing the point on Hurricane Katrina. There was a mandatory evacuation order, but no one even thought about those people who had no way to evacuate. Most due to no money, no car, basically poor people. Now they are talking about rebuilding New Orleans, but no one is going to rebuild a place for the poor to go back to. Habitat for Humanity builds houses for the poor, but they are $60,000 and $70,000 houses. They are not for the poor, they are for the lower middle class. No one helps the poor. There will be a few who will come out OK, but most will just be added to the growing population of homeless people. The poor are the fastest growing portion of the population.
