While I think that the practice of journaling daily is good in theory, it just doesn’t seem to work out well in practice. I tried writing everyday for awhile, but it soon became a chore and the whole process went stale. Now I have decided to focus on quality rather than quantity, which means that sometimes I only write once a week—but I make it a really good entry. I have also started keeping an art journal, which is loads of fun. I find that this works much better for me and I no longer feel guilty if a few days pass between entries.

I’d definitely like to improve my sketching and painting skills one of these days, but it’s just not a top priority now. However, I hope by putting it on my list I’ll find time to devote to it someday. I’ve read that if one wants to improve their sketching skills, they should sketch something (anything) daily. Which reminds me…that tip came out of a sketching instruction book I have that is buried in a drawer somewhere. Maybe if I put the book on a shelf where it’s visible, I’d be tempted to look at it more often…which may in turn prompt me to sketch! :)
I don’t have much experience with watercolors, but I love working with pastels—mainly chalk pastels. If you’ve never used them, you should! Thery’re easy to use and easy to clean up.
Well, that’s my “2 cents.” How are the rest of you doing on this goal?
I learned all the books awhile back through two children’s songs, one for the OT and one for the NT. I have found the knowledge to be very helpful, especially when I’m quickly looking up a passage in a more obscure book (like one of the minor prophets).
If you plan on making Bible reading/studying a lifelong pursuit, you had might as well get the books in their order memorized. It’s not too hard to do and is very handy in the long run!
